AFCON 2019: Alex Iwobi says it has never crossed his mind to inherit Mikel Obi’s shirt – The Super Eagles captain is set to call it quits with the national team after AFCON 2019 – Nigreia will take on Tunisia in the third place match after losing to Algeria in the semis Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that he has not thought of taking over captain Mikel Obi’s No.10 shirt when he retires. And there have been speculations Iwobi could be given the No.10 jersey which the Gunners midfielder says it never crossed his mind.

The Arsenal academy graduate also stated that he believes he has had a good AFCON debut so far in Egypt and insists the team has a bright future despite the disappointing defeat to Algeria in the semi finals. “We were disappointed to have lost in the semifinal and we felt down for a bit but at the end of the day, it’s another match and we have to go again. “I think I’ve done ok for my first AFCON but I hope I can end on a good note.
