President Muhammadu Buhari says he is not ready to identify his successor ahead of the 2023 general elections – Buhari believes that identifying his likely successor will create a problem for him as he journeys into a second term – The president warns ambitious Nigerians not to think they can just wake up and become the country’s leaders President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, July 30, declared that he is not ready to identify his likely successor as moves begin ahead of the 2023 general election. The Nation reports that the president spoke while receiving the members of the Progressive in Academics (Pro-Acad) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. It was learnt that the group had asked the president to start preparing a youth who would replace him when his second term tenure expires in 2023.

In his reaction, however, Buhari noted that identifying anybody as his successor would create problems for him. Buhari, who warned that no Nigerian should think he can just become a president overnight, recalled his previous failed bid to clinch the topmost political position in the country. According to the president, he made three attempts and failed before he was eventually picked by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2015 election. President Buhari also reportedly blamed state governments for the current challenges of the Al- majiri system in the northern part of the country. Legit.ng earlier reported that a civil society organisation, YIAGA AFRICA, recently expressed displeasure over the exclusion of youths from the recently released ministerial nominees by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 24, signed by its executive director, Samson Itodo, the organisation said that the decision of the president was a surprise. “It is indeed disappointing to see that despite the giant strides made my young people especially in the area of politics and leadership, President Muhammadu Buhari has not seen any person below the age of 35 worthy of any ministerial position,” Itodo lamented.
